Archive or delete a class - Computer (2024)

This article is for teachers.

When you’re done teaching a class, you can archive it. When a class is archived, it’s archived for all students and teachers in theclass. If you don’t archive a class, students and teachers in the class continue to find it on their Classes page.

Teachers and co-teachers can archive a class, but only the primary teacher can delete a class. Students can’t archive or delete a class.

What happens to an archivedclass?

  • It’s placed in a separate area to preserve the class materials, student work, and posts. You won’t find it with your active classes on the Classes page.
  • You and your students can find an archived class. To use the class again, you have to restore it.
  • You and your students can still access any class materials in Google Drive. That includes any attachments for assignments or other student work.
  • Students can’t unenroll from an archived class. This can limit how studentscan manage the classes they’re done taking.
  • The class calendar remains in your Google Calendar and in your students' calendars. If you no longer need the class, you can remove its calendar from the display, or delete it permanently. For instructions, go toDelete or unsubscribe from a calendar.

    Note: An archived class stays inClassroom until you delete it. That’s why an archived class’s calendar still shows in your Google Calendar.

Archive or restore a class

Archive a class

You can copy classes before or after you archive them. For instructions, go to Copy a class.

  1. Go to classroom.google.comand click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example,you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.com.Learn more.

  2. On the class card, click More Archive or delete a class - Computer (1) Archive or delete a class - Computer (2) Archive.
  3. Click Archive to confirm.

Find an archived class

  1. Go to classroom.google.comand click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example,you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.com.Learn more.

  2. Optional: To expand the navigation drawer, at the top left, click Menu Archive or delete a class - Computer (3).
  3. Scroll down and click Archived classes Archive or delete a class - Computer (4).
  4. Note: If you haven’t archived any classes, this option won’t be in the menu.

  5. Select the class you want to find.

Tip: To minimize the menu to a collapsed version, at the top left, click Menu Archive or delete a class - Computer (5).

Restore an archived class

When you restore an archived class, you find the class card again with your current classes. You can use its posts, assignments, comments, and materials again.

  1. Go to classroom.google.comand click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example,you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.com.Learn more.

  2. Optional: To expand the navigation drawer, at the top left, click Menu Archive or delete a class - Computer (6).
  3. Scroll down and click Archived classes Archive or delete a class - Computer (7).
  4. Note: If you haven’t archived any classes, this option won’t be in the menu.

  5. On the class card, click More Archive or delete a class - Computer (8) Archive or delete a class - Computer (9) Restore.
  6. Click Restore to confirm.

Tip: To minimize the menu to a collapsed version, at the top left, click Menu Archive or delete a class - Computer (10).

Delete a class

Warning: There's no way to undo deleting a class. If you click Delete, you no longer have access to any class posts or comments. However, you and your students can still access your class files in the class Drive folder.

When you decide you’ll never use a class again, you can delete it permanently. You have to archive a class before you can delete it. Only the primary teacher can delete a class. Co-teachers can’t delete a class.

To delete an archived class:

  1. Go to classroom.google.comand click Sign In.

    Sign in with your Google Account. For example,you@yourschool.edu or you@gmail.com.Learn more.

  2. Optional: To expand the navigation drawer, at the top left, click Menu Archive or delete a class - Computer (11).
  3. Scroll down and click Archived classes Archive or delete a class - Computer (12).
  4. Note: If you haven’t archived any classes, this option won’t be in the menu.​

  5. On the class card, click More Archive or delete a class - Computer (13) Archive or delete a class - Computer (14) Delete.
  6. Click Delete to confirm.

Tip: To minimize the menu to a collapsed version, at the top left, click Menu Archive or delete a class - Computer (15).
